Happy Anniversary and Happy News from Infield Parking
We are celebrating our 2nd anniversary! We want to thank all of you including those who have been with us for the full two years and those who have joined us any time since the early days. All of you help make Infield Parking the exciting community that it is.As a special anniversary message, we wanted to let you know that work on a new software platform is underway. The new platform will support the launch of a totally revamped site in time for the 2009 racing season. We have gone through all of the requests contributed by members, added our own ideas and have come up with what we think is a very exciting list of features and capabilities for the site.
To help us we have engaged two great companies who have plenty of experience in this space but we also need more help from you. During the development phase we will be updating everyone about our progress through the Infield Parking Blog (go to infieldparkingblog.com). Of course you may chime in any time you’d like, but along the way we also intend to ask for your feedback on various new features and we will also let you know when we need volunteers to help us test the new system.
We are really excited about this much needed site-improvement project and we’re looking forward to a raging new season!
Regards, Smitty

I’m looking forward to the updates. The only other thing I think would help is if people would stop constantly complaining. But, you can’t do anything about that.

A bit light on specifics…….
Will it be released in pieces??
Will it ne released all at once??
Will the site be down for a period of time??
If the site is down…. How Long??
When will the site be down??
What are the changes??
Will there be a better form of Private messaging??
December 5th, 2008 at 18:20
@ Smokem - You ask excellent questions. We are indeed light on specifics right now because we are still in building mode. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will delve further into the details of the changes that are being made. We need to balance getting you guys information as soon as possible with making sure it is the correct information. In the past the team in charge was big on promises and light on delivery.
To answer two of your questions:
- the site release will have a core set of features common to all Social Networks (in other words, a lot more than we have now). We will continue to add custom features throughout the year.
- there will be private messaging. i will go into the details of it as we complete the module.

Thanks for the update of the new site to be implemented. I agree with Andilee about the posting time for the race thread ‘09.
Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone!!!!!!

Thanks for this blog and for updating members as to what is happening.
I am sure you are well aware that there are several members who have extensive experience with the creation/operation of websites; nightphoenix, mpracing - I know there are others as well. All I am saying is that maybe you could enlist their help in creating a user friendly site with features people want.
As Andi said “Merry Christmas”!

Who is -m??
December 5th, 2008 at 22:02
@Andile0388, I am not sure I get the reference to ‘Hampsters’. Can you enlighten me.
@Jen - ‘-m’ is me, my name is Mike Rosenthal. I used to write the blog last summer and I was on the start up team for Infield Parking. I will be writing and moderating this blog with help from Smitty - Mark Smith. We may have some other guests from the development team as we move forward.

Okay, first off - happy birthday / anniversary whatever the correct term to call it this year is!
Now, I would love to see it in text and be able to believe it , but the new software has been being “worked on” for a long time, and I don’t see any reasons as to why I should believe that change is coming for the 2009 season. Now, my pessimism aside, and if everything does actually happen - please tell me that you’re keeping the general core of the site - and not making it more of a Myspace or Facebook. The people make the site, but there’s nothing wrong with the interface we have now - just a few details would make it better, which could (in theory) be easily implemented.
Hope that the site is kept the way it is - with just due upgrades.
And, for dealing with all the carp that you must deal with from people who have given up with the upgrades, thankyou , for if they do work. I hope I’m wrong, and that they are upgraded for 2009 (but before the Daytona 500, por favor!)

We have heard this song and dance before. I hope it is for real this time. Maybe we can have private groups and deny access to teenagers and trolls and be left alone to moderate our own groups without constant harrassment by overzealous G Rated mentality moderators.
Merry Christmas
December 6th, 2008 at 03:25
@Daytona Bob - Private Groups is one of the biggest features that the current site is missing. I will get more into the features for groups next week, as well as the administration of them. I think you will be very happy with what we have planned.

Thanks for the update, I think.
When it comes to the constant promise of upgrades to this site, consider us all from Missouri. Don’t tell us about them, show us. The constant promises are the standing joke on this site. When promises are made and not followed up on a lot of credibility is lost. Please stop with the excuses and start giving solutions. They are easier to swallow.

Hope it’s not too little, too late. I know of several people who have already jumped ship and I’m only barely here myself.

Can’t wait to see the new capabilities and improvements. Happy 2nd Anniversary IP. It’s an awesome site. I love it!
December 8th, 2008 at 06:49

May I suggest a timeline, or progress timeline posted on the site witl goals and progress as the main subject of this application so we can see how things are going.
I think it would be a great way to restore faith in all this.
Love this site, I just want it better.

Assuming somebody is in command………
Is it still Edward.??????
If so……… what is the holdup getting the “Edit” button back??
Please do not insult us with some inane comment about
programming hours ………
Let us be forthright here……….
JimmiesFan raised hell over the “Edit” buttom abuse.
(She is no longer a registered user)
If……… The edit button is “Abused”…………..
Punish the ABUSER……… NOT the balance of your members.
Dealing to the lowest common denominator is what Government
is best at………….. and we ALL know how well that is doing at the
moment.
So…………………….. Babyt steps………….
Please bring the “Edit button back…………….

Thanks Infield Parking!!!!
December 9th, 2008 at 19:32
Technically it’s next week, when can we expect an update on the private thing? or was it thrown under the bus as well?
And these updated updates? When will we hear about those?
We got a hose job guys, so forgive us if we aren’t willing to believe what is said…… honesty is all we are asking for…….

Mike: The reference to hamsters was a joke regarding the lack of speed, especially during the race threads. It was said IP was powered by hamsters on their wheel, and that very frequently someone neglected to feed them, therefore causing incredible lulls in posting, and inability to maintain any semblence of intelligent conversation!
Hope this helps?? Maybe ferrets???
December 10th, 2008 at 10:33
@ Andilee0388 Thanks for the clarification. I thought it was something like that. Based on the sites performance at heavy load times, I would say that hamster was either severely malnourished or in the throws of rigamortis.
December 10th, 2008 at 12:48
LmAo!
Looks like there’s gonna be some changes to IP after all.
December 17th, 2008 at 16:34
I’m just going to keep this short…Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. If I happen to see ya at the tracks, whether they’re short or long…know that I’ll always try to give ya a shout out. Take care and God bless…

Mike, One quick question for you. When the sight comes back online with all the new features will my sight still look the same or am I going to get it back as a blank page? The reason that I am asking is that I have spent a lot of time designing my page and I would hate to have to start all over again from scratch. The things that you are adding sound very cool though. I am also the admin of a sight called the Victory Kahne Social Network. It is a social networking sight that is very much like Infield Parking for Kasey Kahne fans. The server that we use for our sight has a lot of feartures you are adding like the picture uploader so you do not have to use a third party sight and also the private message feature that you are adding. Both have worked very well for us over there and I am excited that you are now going to have features like that on Infield Parking. Well thanks for your time and the best of luck with the changes.
